📋 Description

• Work primarily on the Disability Rights Program’s veterans’ docket • Assist with litigation and advocacy at the intersection of disability rights, civil liberties, and servicemembers’ and veterans’ rights • Conduct legal research and writing, including memos and portions of court submissions • Conduct factual investigation • Support preparation for and participation in depositions, oral arguments, hearings, and trials • Participate in litigation, advocacy, internal meetings, and discussions • Support Disability Rights Program litigation and integrated advocacy across priority areas

🎯 Requirements

• Currently matriculated legal student • Enrolled at a U.S. law school • Completed at least one year of law school before the internship commences • Based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship • Lawfully authorized to work to receive the stipend • Excellent research skills, including internet and legal database research • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Attention to detail and excellent organizing and time-management skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite • Initiative to see projects through to completion • Commitment to advancing the mission of the ACLU • Commitment to equity, inclusion, belonging, diversity, collaboration, and respectful conflict resolution

• Stipend of $24/hour for lawfully authorized students • Partial stipend available for students receiving outside funding, bringing total funding up to the ACLU’s stipend amount • Remote or hybrid work arrangement • Reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities • Summer internship experience in litigation, advocacy, legal research, writing, fact investigation, and court proceedings
