📋 Description

• Oversee a team of advocates and shape policy advocacy strategies in the Central U.S. region • Lead member engagement in the region • Develop and implement multi-year strategies and campaigns to accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy and electrified transportation • Lead development of political and policy strategies and identify future venues for policy and political success in targeted states • Manage a geographically dispersed advocacy team and lobbyists on the ground • Collaborate across United’s policy team on short- and long-term policy objectives in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Texas, and Wisconsin • Engage in legislative, regulatory, and administrative processes, including governor’s offices • Develop consensus with members on policy positions and facilitate member calls and policy discussions • Conduct member engagement through decision-maker engagement, lobby days, candidate education, earned media, and expert testimony • Participate in legislative, rulemaking, and administrative processes as needed • Maintain relationships with coalition partners, philanthropy, allies, and legislative, regulatory, and administrative staff • Represent United before funders and member prospects and help raise funds • Build relationships with regional decision-makers and leverage the advanced energy industry to affect policy change • Travel for advocacy days, conferences, stakeholder meetings, staff development, and other United efforts

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s and/or Advanced degree; Political Science, Public Policy, or Economics preferred, or applicable comparable experience • Minimum of ten years of professional experience in public policy, with a portion of that engagement in the clean energy or transportation sector • Experience managing a team in a remote environment • Viewed as a subject matter expert in a specific focus area • Political campaign or organizing experience, preferably in the clean energy advocacy space • Entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to operate independently • Ability to engage members, customers, and funders, and sell United and its value proposition to those audiences • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop an internal team and work collaboratively across project teams • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal • Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills • Ability to manage a project budget and financials • Performance-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative, and commitment to achieving goals • Candidates should be creative and flexible, with the ability to develop and execute strategies while working in multiple venues with diverse stakeholders • Ability to travel frequently; travel up to 30% to targeted states • Strong preference for residence in the Midwest or Central Plains States
