📋 Description

• Set and own the technical direction for a core product domain • Make and defend architecture, sequencing, and tradeoff decisions • Lead complex, multi-quarter initiatives end to end • Break ambiguous problems into work other engineers can execute • Partner with product and design from problem definition through delivery • Shape what gets built and how it gets built • Raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship • Identify and advocate for investments in reliability, performance, and developer velocity • Own operational health, performance, observability, and on-call for the domain • Work with AI development tools and help the team use them effectively • Work across the stack, including backend data models and asynchronous processing, frontend design systems, and rich visualizations • Report to the Senior Engineering Manager

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years building and shipping production software as a full-stack engineer • Track record of technical leadership on ambiguous, high-stakes projects • Demonstrated impact beyond the candidate's own team • Strong server-side experience with modern OOP practices • Experience with Ruby and PostgreSQL, or deep expertise in a comparable stack and motivation to learn Affinity's stack • Experience building component-based interfaces with React and TypeScript • Deep understanding of relational databases • Experience designing systems that scale and diagnosing performance bottlenecks • Practical fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar • Good judgment about AI tool use, reviewing generated output, and associated risks • Ability to deliver high-quality products and champion technical excellence • Nice to have: experience building product features on top of LLMs or agent frameworks, including evaluation and monitoring • Nice to have: experience in a company where AI-assisted development was the norm • During live interviews, no use of AI is permitted unless otherwise stated
