📋 Description

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale • Connect technical strategy to critical, business-impacting projects • Collaborate with product management, design and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle • Ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are understood and managed • Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes • Own team operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting • Foster quality and ownership through code review and design standards • Advocate for engineering standards through writing and tech talks • Develop team talent through feedback, guidance and leading by example • Build full-stack cardholder experiences and backend services for Affirm’s card product • Own features end to end, from problem definition through production launch and monitoring • Use AI to improve development quality and customer experiences

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin • Extensive experience developing highly available distributed systems • Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes • 8+ years of experience as a software engineer • Proficiency developing web apps with declarative UI frameworks such as React Native, React or Vue • Proficiency designing, developing and launching systems at scale • Experience delivering major features, system components, or deprecating existing functionality through technical and execution plans • Ability to write high-quality, understandable code • Ability to work from low-level language idioms through large-system architecture • AI-first mindset and adoption of current technologies • Demonstrated ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
