📋 Description

• Research policy issues and develop memos or issue briefs • Analyze state and federal legislation or regulation • Assist with administrative work • Prepare correspondence and conduct outreach to supporters, coalition partners, and public officials • Attend virtual public hearings, coalition calls, stakeholder meetings, lobby days, lobby 101s, conferences, and other events • Collaborate with Communications and other departments to draft, proofread, edit, and update campaign website content, email action alerts, and phonebanking scripts • Coordinate with other programs on cases related to legislative campaigns • Prepare and deliver virtual presentations for advocacy trainings, conferences, and fundraising events • Assist the Legislative Affairs Program in developing and implementing legislative resources and strategies • Participate in scheduled networking and engagement activities

🎯 Requirements

• Current 2L (or part-time program equivalent) or LLM student at an ABA accredited law school • Eligibility to work in the United States • Sincere interest in animal protection • Superior legal research and writing skills, including ability to tailor voice and style to various audiences • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work cooperatively in a mission-driven, team-oriented environment • Willingness to accept a variety of assignments within animal law • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills • Ability to work independently and remotely • Ability to use discretion with confidential and emotional aspects of the work • Access to a computer with internet and Microsoft Suite • Familiarity with animal law and legislation preferred • Resume, cover letter, 2–3 professional references, law school transcript, and original writing sample required for application • Personal United States address required; must work primarily from that address
