📋 Description

• Report directly to Ashby’s Co-Founder and CTO • Build and maintain a long-term vision and six-month roadmap for Platform & Infrastructure • Grow the Platform & Infrastructure team by hiring individual contributors and managers • Build a headcount plan and assess whether specialized roles such as Database Administrator are needed • Maintain and improve relationships with Product Engineering • Enable Product Engineering to move quickly without compromising performance or reliability • Assess and improve monitoring and incident-management processes • Improve uptime measurement and coordination with Support during incidents • Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate pricing for AWS, ClickHouse, Datadog, Braintrust, and other critical infrastructure • Hire and manage a manager within the first six months • Potentially manage developer experience and developer tools and build a dedicated DevEx team • Lead the Platform & Infrastructure organization through continued company growth • Ship product, feature, and infrastructure changes during the first months • Develop and refine a six-month onboarding plan • Conduct 30-day, 60-day, 90-day, and six-month reviews with the CTO • Participate in technical pairing, leadership interviews, reference checks, and team leadership discussions

🎯 Requirements

• Important leadership role during a company’s high-growth period, as an IC Lead or Engineering Leader • Experience making high-quality decisions under pressure while balancing short-term fixes and long-term investments • Experience hiring and building hiring processes, including designing interviews, interview loops, and hiring strategy • Track record of excellent collaboration with Product Engineering, Product, Sales, or Support • Knowledge of platform and infrastructure technologies, networking, and hardware • Understanding of Kubernetes, load balancers, pods, and underlying hardware/cloud abstractions • Excellent written communication and ability to communicate technical concepts to less-technical stakeholders • Experience managing managers • Comfortable managing teams spanning the Americas West Coast to Europe • Must live in the PST-GMT time zone • Comfortable coding and staying up to date on technology • Experience leading the definition and evolution of engineering culture and processes • Ability to work with highly autonomous Senior+, Staff, and Principal engineers
