• Conduct on-site surveys of long-term care facilities to determine compliance with state and federal rules and regulations • Document survey findings using automated and written survey processes • Review the quality of nursing care in nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities • Evaluate complex medical situations and prepare survey documents under strict deadlines • Lead, plan, organize, and direct nursing activities in assigned facilities • Review policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and quality improvement activities • Plan surveys according to facility services, size, and compliance history • Gather compliance data through interviews, observations, environmental and equipment inspections, and record reviews • Compile reports of findings and deficiencies with supporting evidence • Recommend adverse action when appropriate and notify facilities of findings • Review and monitor facility Plans of Correction • Adjust survey focus based on client needs, complaints, and emerging findings • Coordinate activities with appropriate agencies • Provide training and guidance to newly employed surveyors • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state long-term-care requirements • May serve as team lead worker • Perform other duties as assigned
• Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, two (2) years of which in an administrative or supervisory capacity and current Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse; or eight (8) years of experience as a Registered Nurse (HCP073) or position equivalent, two (2) years of which in an environment related to the area of assignment, four (4) years of which as a supervisor and current Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse • Possession of a valid Georgia driver's license • Use of a car at work • Extensive statewide and overnight travel, up to 90% • Occasional weekend and after-hours work may be required • Successful completion of preparatory training and the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment • Ability to inspect long-term care facilities and assess compliance with state and federal rules and regulations • Ability to prepare survey documents and reports under strict deadlines • Ability to review medical records, regulatory standards, facility procedures, and equipment • Ability to conduct interviews, observations, inspections, and data gathering
