📋 Description

• Select and pull animals from priority shelters to support Best Friends Animal Society’s no-kill mission • Build relationships with assigned shelters and provide ongoing consultative guidance, coaching, and strategic mentorship • Help shelters implement programming to achieve and sustain a 90% save rate • Evaluate shelter population needs and placement opportunities for dogs and cats • Safely transport animals to the Northwest Arkansas program • Assess operational challenges and guide adoption of effective lifesaving practices • Deliver lifesaving training, team-building activities, consultation, and mentoring to shelter staff • Provide customer service to partner shelters and community stakeholders • Represent Best Friends’ mission and vision within partner shelters • Develop and refine resources and maintain statistics for priority partner shelters • Lead and empower volunteers and volunteer teams • Collaborate with Best Friends team members to implement efficient processes, communications, data entry, and recordkeeping • Travel up to 75% within Arkansas and surrounding states

🎯 Requirements

• Background in animal sheltering; working in an animal shelter is required, preferably in a municipal, government or private shelter with contractual animal control responsibilities • Basic ability to identify and speak to medical and behavioral characteristics and body language of dogs and cats • Ability to work professionally, nonjudgmentally, and supportively in shelters that are not no-kill • Experience with and comfortability driving large multi-passenger vehicles or willingness to learn • Strong interpersonal, organization, problem-solving, adaptability, and teamwork skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with shelter software/animal management software, or desire to learn • Ability to professionally advocate Best Friends’ positions on issues • Experience supporting, engaging with, and developing relationships with volunteers and donors • Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years and qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance • Ability to travel regularly up to 75%, including overnight stays when needed • Ability to handle dogs and cats of all sizes, temperaments, and medical or behavioral conditions • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme heat and cold • Must routinely lift 40 pounds and perform strenuous physical activities • Availability for variable schedules including weekends, nights, and holidays • Applicants for employment in the U.S. must have valid work authorization that does not now and/or will not in the future require visa sponsorship • Experience leading teams and implementing programs is preferred but not required • Bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred but not required
