📋 Description

• Drive quality performance across the organization by communicating with hospital physicians, utilization management, case management, CDI, denials, and quality staff • Conduct case reviews to ensure compliance, accurate clinical documentation, and appropriate utilization of healthcare services • Meet with hospital personnel and medical staff to provide education and expertise • Advise attending physicians on patient status, resource utilization, continued hospitalization, compliance concerns, and quality tracking/reporting • Interact with third-party payer medical directors regarding medical necessity, resource utilization, and level of care • Review medical records identified by the UM team or healthcare team • Perform status determinations, second-level reviews, and continued-stay reviews • Review Code 44 cases and assist with length-of-stay management • Collaborate with case management and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care and reduce readmissions • Communicate with medical staff through secure email, secure texting, phone calls, and face-to-face interactions • Liaise between Utilization Management/Case Management and providers on appropriate plans of care • Review and suggest improvements related to resource allocation • Optimize coordination-of-care processes • Guide ED physicians and UM/CM teams regarding alternatives to acute care • Review denials and author appeal letters • Perform peer-to-peer reviews with payers • Liaise with payers to facilitate approvals and prevent denials or carved-out days • Perform other duties as assigned • Work independently in an office-style environment with reading, typing, and computer work

🎯 Requirements

• Experienced Physician Advisor only; no part-time inquiries • MD or DO • Current, unrestricted medical license in state of residence • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with medical staff and hospital leadership • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of EMRs • 1–3 years of Physician Advisor experience and clinical experience in a hospital-based setting • Board Certified / Eligible preferred • CCDS or CDIP preferred • CCS preferred • CHCQM certification (ABQAURP) preferred • Strong interpersonal skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work independently • Ability to build relationships with key hospital team members • Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity that may include lifting 25 pounds • Subject to exposure to environmental hazards associated with healthcare and office work
