📋 Description

• Review medical record documentation and accurately assign ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT IV, and HCPCS codes • Code outpatient visits including ancillary, urgent care, emergency department, observation, same day surgery, and interventional procedures • Abstract required data according to facility specifications • Perform medical necessity checks for Medicare and other payers • Monitor and work discharged-not-final-billed accounts, failed claims, stop bills, and epremis as a team • Ensure timely and compliant outpatient claim processing • Maintain productivity requirements, 3M 360 CAC KPIs, and quality standards • Monitor CMS requirements, NCD and LCD guidelines, and modifier assignment requirements • Use 3M encoder, CAC, medical necessity software, abstracting systems, code books, and reference materials • Report coding software inaccuracies to HIM management/supervisor • Report potential unethical or fraudulent activity according to compliance policy • Follow Mercy Health policies and procedures, including PTO requirements • Attend required meetings and educational sessions and complete annual learning programs • Perform training and mentoring SMART responsibilities where applicable

🎯 Requirements

• Must have Outpatient Surgery Coding Experience • Vocational/Technical Degree in HIM / Coding Certification • Completion of Coding Curriculum with one year of previous coding experience • Active, non-expired licensure/certification requirements as applicable • If RHIA, RHIT, or CCA upon hire without COC or CCS, must acquire COC or CCS and CRCR within 1 year of hire • Satisfactory completion of Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology • Completion of ICD-10 training • Previous use of coding software tools • Knowledge of medical record content, including electronic medical records (EMRs) • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team • Ability to function under continual deadlines • Ability to maintain accuracy during frequent interruptions • Proficiency in keyboarding and working knowledge of computers • Excellent communication skills • Preferred: previous coding experience in an acute care setting and previous use of CAC
