📋 Description

• Calculate and provide patients with personalized estimates of financial responsibility before service • Clearly explain patient liability, deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, non-covered services, and out-of-network costs • Request upfront payments and establish payment arrangements for scheduled services • Interview uninsured patients to assess financial needs and identify assistance programs • Coordinate paperwork and applications for potential coverage and continue follow-up to obtain funding • Initiate credit scoring to determine eligibility for Medicaid, charity care, and other programs • Assist with Medicaid applications in conjunction with state social workers and outside eligibility vendors • Maintain working knowledge of insurance benefits, insurance companies, Marketplace options, and other payer sources • Educate physician offices and patients on financial assistance, patient responsibility, non-covered services, and deferral-of-care policies • Coordinate with provider offices on scheduling based on funding needs and financial responsibility • Stay current on Medicare, Medicaid, government-funding regulations, eligibility requirements, and 501R regulations • Conduct HIPAA-compliant patient interviews and manage related demographic data and documentation • Collaborate with peers regarding uninsured patients and patients concerned about upcoming care costs • Serve consumers virtually and in bedside, Emergency Department, clinic, Urgent Care, consult, and Financial Resource Specialist office settings

🎯 Requirements

• High School Graduate, Certificate of General Educational Development (GED), or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) • Typically requires 2 years of experience in Patient Access, health care, insurance industry, or customer service • Ability to communicate clearly and proactively with management about customer service and process improvement issues • Ability to explain HIPAA and EMTALA regulations as they relate to patient interactions • Solid knowledge of insurance denials and appeals processes • Basic medical coding knowledge • Understanding of insurance, billing, and denials • Ability to use scripted notes and clear written communication when documenting in patient accounts • No licensure, registration, or certification required • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job • Must be able to sit for a majority of the workday • Occasionally lift up to 10 lbs. • Position requires travel and exposure to weather and road conditions
