📋 Description

• Accurately and timely assign ICD-10-CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT codes • Assign payment group classifications and abstract data for reimbursement and statistical reporting • Review and interpret inpatient, outpatient, ancillary, diagnostic, and emergency medicine records • Perform coding and abstracting to support billing, data quality, statistics, severity-of-illness, and risk-of-mortality reporting • Use diagnostic reports, laboratory values, doctors’ orders, and medication forms to code patient charts • Complete daily coding assignments and work within applicable service-line structures • Mentor newer coders and coders training in new coding disciplines • Abstract, determine, and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes in the coding and abstracting system • Place accounts on hold, ask management questions, and initiate queries using coding-system procedures • Review charts with Coding Management for accurate code assignment • Provide coded and abstracted information for final billing within productivity expectations • Review and update patient demographic and abstracted data received via HL7 • Calculate inpatient encounters using MS-DRG and APR-DRG groupers • Sequence CPT codes using APC grouper methodology • Submit daily productivity reports • Attend coding meetings, training sessions, seminars, and workshops • Report patient identification, account, encounter, documentation, and medical record discrepancies • Support special coding projects • Assist with HIMS IT initiatives, systems testing, report reconciliation, and IT project support • Support revenue-cycle goals by working aged coding accounts and using billing-system reports and queues

🎯 Requirements

• CCS credential required • College Degree in Health Information Management, Completion of AHIMA Approved Certificate Program, or one-year coding experience in the acute care setting coding Inpatient, Observation, Emergency Medicine or Same Day Surgery is required • Associate or Bachelor Science degree in Health Information Technology preferred • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted • Knowledge of ICD 10 CM/PCS and HCPCS/CPT coding • Knowledge of UHDDS definitions, CMS regulations, and Official and Internal Coding Guidelines • Ability to meet HIMS productivity and accuracy standards • Ability to code inpatient, outpatient, emergency medicine, ancillary, and diagnostic records • National candidates encouraged to apply
