• Coordinate daily coding and coding support functions of Health Information Management Services. • Receive and print management exception reports, review discrepancies, and make corrections as necessary. • Identify opportunities to reduce inpatient DNFB. • Act as a liaison between facility, physician, and ancillary departments to resolve problematic accounts. • Develop coding policies and procedures in accordance with CMS, AHIMA, AHA, and AMA guidelines. • Coordinate installation and perform training for coding/abstracting computer system enhancements and updates. • Train coding staff on current guidelines, regulations, codes, payment schemes, and data element requirements. • Serve as a coding subject matter expert to other departments. • Analyze and report trends for improvement opportunities. • Apply Focus PDCA methodology to improve coding section performance. • Maintain database accuracy, queries, and report writing relating to coding and abstracting. • Verify coding and abstracting accuracy through quantitative and qualitative reviews. • Code inpatient and outpatient accounts as necessary to prevent backlog situations.
• RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification or equivalent certification/degree. • College credits in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. • Three years coding experience in a Health Information Management Department or equivalent. • Experience with implementing and maintaining computer systems.
