• Manage and monitor pre-award activities for a portfolio of Principal Investigators • Review funding opportunities and proposal solicitations to identify components, compliance requirements, and due dates • Prepare and submit federal, non-federal, and internal research funding proposals, including grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, and subawards • Establish submission deadlines in compliance with Department and GCS policies and procedures • Communicate policies and procedures to internal and external customers • Develop budgets and justifications aligned with project needs and federal regulations • Coordinate and review biosketches and facilities and resources information • Initiate electronic applications in web-based proposal submission portals and upload documents • Monitor and facilitate proposals through workflow routing processes • Serve as a Principal Investigator liaison with sponsors and foster relationships • Prepare and submit documents accurately and timely • Cultivate relationships with research administration officials at collaborating institutions • Coordinate with post-award managers to transition budgeted awards to approved awards • Disseminate award terms and participate in rebudgeting and resubmission efforts
• Bachelor’s degree with 3–5 years of increasingly responsible, directly related research administration experience or equivalent combination of education and experience • Experience supporting scientists and engineers in federal and non-federal research administration • Knowledge and experience working with a broad spectrum of funding agencies, foundations, and industry sponsors • Experience developing complex budgets and justifications compliant with federal regulations • Ability to function as a team member while taking initiative and ownership of assigned duties and projects • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload • Strong customer service focus and ability to collaborate with diverse constituents • Demonstrated critical thinking skills • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and manage complex documents and agreements • Ability to work with confidential information, exercise discretion, good judgment, and initiative • Knowledge of research administration methodologies, practices, and policies, including CFR, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, export controls, indirect cost rates, and other complex concepts • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, ERA systems (Kuali, Streamlyne, InfoEd, etc.), and ERP systems (Workday, PeopleSoft, SAP, etc.) on PC and/or Macintosh platforms • Ability to cultivate relationships and communicate with research administration officials at collaborating organizations • Demonstrated interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills • US Citizenship Required
