📋 Description

• Own the accounting and operational oversight of Merchant of Record activities across supported brands • Review, validate, and approve high-value transactions and settlements according to approval thresholds and internal controls • Monitor and resolve urgent payment exceptions, including settlement failures, payment holds, chargebacks, and significant refunds • Maintain transaction-level review processes to minimize errors, prevent revenue leakage, and ensure financial accuracy • Serve as the primary liaison for payment processing, settlements, reconciliations, tax compliance, and financial reporting related to MoR operations • Perform and oversee reconciliations between payment platforms, banking activity, operational systems, and the general ledger • Investigate and resolve discrepancies with documented root causes and resolutions • Support month-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting • Improve control processes and identify automation and operational-efficiency opportunities • Ensure accurate sales tax collection, remittance, and reporting across applicable jurisdictions • Manage tax configurations and coordinate with internal and external partners to maintain compliance • Support audits and regulatory inquiries related to payment operations and Merchant of Record activities • Develop, maintain, and enhance accounting policies, operational procedures, and internal controls • Partner with payment providers and external vendors on contractual compliance and operational effectiveness • Implement and maintain statements of work, contracts, and operating requirements with payment vendors • Create and maintain playbooks, standard operating procedures, and process documentation for scalability and knowledge transfer

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience • Three to seven years of experience in payments operations, merchant services, accounting, finance, or a related field within e-commerce, SaaS, digital goods, marketplace, or technology-enabled services • Strong understanding of payment processing, settlements, merchant accounts, and financial controls • Hands-on experience preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support • Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing large datasets • Working knowledge of SQL and reporting or analytics tools • Exceptionally detail-oriented, with a consistent commitment to accuracy and rigorous transaction review • Strong judgment under time pressure • Ability to maintain compliance, risk management, and financial controls while acting with urgency • Highly organized and capable of managing competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and driving issues through resolution • Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and strong financial stewardship • Applicants must be located in or willing to move to AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MS, NE, NV, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, or WV • Must be eligible to work in the United States • Cart.com does not sponsor or transfer visas for applicants • Nice to have: prior Merchant of Record experience; experience with Stripe, Braintree, PayPal, or similar; familiarity with Avalara, TaxJar, or comparable systems; ERP experience such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or NetSuite; experience developing scalable procedures, automation, and controls
