The organization also supports producers with resources, trainings, and transition assistance to help them achieve and maintain organic certification.

📋 Description

• Provide technical services to certified organic processor/handler clients • Review and communicate mid-year updates, including labels, product formulations, ingredient suppliers, food additives, production methods, equipment sanitation procedures, pest-control plans, and audit-trail documentation • Make autonomous or semi-autonomous compliance decisions under USDA NOP and other organic standards • Communicate compliance decisions and certification requirements to clients • Work on special projects assigned by Handler Certification leadership or the Chief Certification Officer • Maintain accurate records in CCOF’s complex proprietary database • Provide technical assistance on regulatory topics • Communicate with clients by email, letter, phone, and occasional virtual or in-person meetings • Review client updates and inspection reports while independently managing workload • Make compliance decisions using regulatory text and technical-support resources • Ensure USDA NOP, applicable standards, and CCOF Quality System requirements are implemented • Update and audit client databases for consistency and currency • Attend recurring staff meetings and monitor internal communications • No supervisory responsibilities • Reports to the Handler Certification Team Lead, Supervisor, or Manager • No on-site inspections or future fieldwork

🎯 Requirements

• B.A. or B.S. degree or higher in food science, chemistry, or related field, or at least three years’ work experience in an applicable field in lieu of the degree requirement • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and relevant database programs • Ability to manage emails and notifications, learn database programs, and maintain accurate database records • Clear, direct, and concise written and verbal communication skills • Ability to provide technical support and build trust through customer service • Ability to convey certification requirements and address compliance issues clearly and professionally • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve errors • Ability to organize, monitor, plan, and follow through on tasks with competing deadlines • Ability to manage a high volume of work while maintaining auditable written/database records • Ability to prioritize tasks without sacrificing quality • Ability to think critically, logically, quickly, and autonomously to propose solutions • Ability to use internal and external resources to solve unfamiliar situations • Ability to contribute to team tasks, goals, and projects • Desired: IOIA Organic Handler Inspector training or equivalent, including auditor training for food quality production systems • Desired: Work experience with organic regulations or the organic industry • Desired: Experience with complex database programs, including data analysis, reporting, database performance, data integrity, and security • Desired: One or more years’ experience in a professional office environment or quality assurance • Desired: Experience with environmental, quality assurance, or food safety regulatory programs • Desired: Commitment to CCOF’s mission and anti-discrimination principles • Desired: Experience working remotely with in-office and remote teams • 8-hour workday within 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. in the employee’s time zone • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer • Cover letter, current resume, and three professional references required for application
