• Conduct virtual one-on-one interviews using structured guides and produce high-quality video recordings • Conduct small-group interviews and facilitate focus groups • Conduct large-scale document analysis and review document analysis for triangulation • Apply CDI’s qualitative research procedures and protocols consistently • Identify research risks or protocol deviations and suggest appropriate adjustments • Produce clear, well-organized interview summaries requiring minimal rework • Synthesize interview data across participants to identify patterns, themes, and key insights • Tag and organize qualitative data using an established coding framework • Submit research materials using established naming conventions and documentation standards • Maintain rapport, neutrality, and professionalism with skeptical or challenging participants • Support qualitative research for CDI’s Culture Change Team • Potentially support user experience research and exploratory/discovery studies
• 3+ years of applied qualitative research experience, including interviewing and small group moderating • Familiarity with campus life, institutional culture, organizational development, intergroup dialogue, civic education, and/or civic engagement in higher education • Ability to conduct high-quality interviews and facilitate focus groups using structured guides while adapting flexibly • Ability to produce clear interview summaries that synthesize key takeaways and follow CDI’s format • Comfort interfacing with skeptical or high-status stakeholders, including faculty, senior leaders, and students • Prior contract or freelance experience • Ability to commit to scoped deliverables during project windows • Reliable calendar and availability management, punctuality, clear communication, secure data handling, and deadline adherence • Access to a computer, dependable internet connection, and a quiet, private, professional interview setting • Comfort using Zoom • Availability during standard U.S. business hours • Availability during October 2026–May 2027 • Experience with Dovetail is a plus • Experience with video transcript tagging via a research repository like Dovetail is a bonus
