• Perform telephone triage under demanding, stressful, and repetitious conditions • Collect patient/caller data and make assessments • Develop working diagnoses and determine interventions and disposition per guidelines • Instruct patients/callers on evaluating symptoms, treatment effectiveness, and when to call back • Document symptoms/complaints, nursing assessments, advice, and patient/caller responses • Follow policies, procedures, and protocols to improve healthcare outcomes and access • Perform initial assessments for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patients • Differentiate normal from abnormal findings and identify potential problems • Educate patients/callers and assess understanding • Assess for signs of abuse and make appropriate referrals • Review medications, drug dosages, allergies, health history, and immunization status • Monitor call-queue safety and act as liaison for staffing or interdisciplinary issues when assigned • Act as a resource for other staff and provide feedback to supervisors • Analyze assessment data and select appropriate guidelines • Maintain clear, concise documentation reflecting nursing assessments and care advice • Perform QI, documentation, and audio audits • Adjust dispositions based on patient/caller needs using nursing judgment • Integrate quality improvement and QA audit findings into practice • Identify self-learning needs and incorporate new knowledge into practice
• Associate's Degree Required • Two years of recent nursing experience Required • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required • RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required • Provides age appropriate triage and treatment dispositions to all callers from newborn to Adult, including OB and Worker's Compensation Injury Reporting required • Utilizes computer software and associated programs to triage and send reports to appropriate agencies or clinics required • Uses nursing judgment as an adjunct to the computer Software Program to reach appropriate dispositions and care advice required • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations required • Ability to apply nursing principles, practices and techniques required • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment required • Ability to use computers and computer systems required • Computer skills required • Bilingual skills preferred • All job applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test after a conditional offer
