EarthScope Consortium is a collaborative organization that supports transformative global geophysical research, instrumentation, and education. It operates national geophysical facilities (including the NSF Geodetic Facility for the Advancement of Geoscience and the NSF Seismological Facility for the Advancement of Geoscience), maintains continuous seismic and geodetic networks, provides data services and cloud-based data systems, and offers education, internship, and workforce development programs. The consortium supports community science, project support for instrumentation and field deployments, and distribution of geophysical data products for research and outreach.

📋 Description

• Implement geophysics workforce programming and products • Identify and attract potential geophysicists, prepare and enhance skills, retain geophysicists, and increase the geophysics and geoscience workforce • Ensure workforce programming supports the needs of all participants • Implement recruitment strategies to promote workforce development programs and attract qualified candidates • Carry out established processes and procedures for evaluation of workforce programming and products • Collaborate with partner organizations to advance geoscience and geophysics workforce priorities • Support preparation of publications documenting workforce projects and impacts • Support students, lead workforce programming, and present work results at conferences • Support internship alumni through an active alumni network • Maintain online presence for workforce activities • Execute programming for early career geoscientists/geophysicists with partner organizations • Partner with the communications team to communicate initiatives, events, and progress • Provide managerial direction to interns and volunteers • Support RESESS and GLP internship programs with participant recruitment, application processes, communications, and onboarding • Contribute to internship operations, including travel, payments, professional development, and evaluations • Maintain participant records and facilitate connections to future opportunities • Contribute to other workforce programming, including Career internship, Field School 1, Field School 3, and programming for early career faculty • Represent workforce programs at conferences, meetings, and recruitment events • Interact with staff, community, and partner organizations while fostering a respectful professional culture

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience • Applicants must be authorized to work and physically reside within the 50 United States • Applicants MUST be authorized to work permanently in the United States • Cover letter must be submitted along with the resume • Experience supporting initiatives that help learners develop applied skills • Knowledge of Google suite of tools • Strong spreadsheet and data management skills • Ability to coordinate schedules, communications, and program logistics across multiple stakeholders • Familiarity with project implementation, data collection, reporting activities, or budget tracking • Experience conducting scientific research • Experience supporting a wide variety of program participants • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to present to diverse audiences and translate science for nonscientific audiences • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work tasks • Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management system • Knowledge of geophysics or geosciences • Ability to compute, analyze and interpret numerical data • Appropriate availability consistent with EarthScope established practices and norms; hours may exceed 40 hours per week, particularly when traveling • Up to 20% travel • Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent in geosciences, or related field (preferred) • Bilingual; Spanish highly desired (preferred) • Participation in science internship as a student (preferred)
