📋 Description
• Manage, research, interpret, and draft timely, Billing Guideline-compliant responses to insurance-company deductions on defense counsel invoices • Develop a thorough understanding of each insurance company’s Defense Counsel Billing Guidelines • Review, assess, and research insurance billing deductions using matter files and billing guidelines to determine appealability • Draft persuasive, compliant, well-written responses to billing reductions • Communicate with impacted timekeepers regarding reduced entries requiring additional detail • Partner with Billing and Collections to submit appeal responses to insurance companies • Develop and implement strategies to improve Guidelines-compliant entries and reduce billing reductions • Monitor submitted appeal outcomes to improve subsequent responses • Establish financial and other performance goals with legal project management leadership • Track credits, appealed amounts, and successfully appealed time entries • Report appeal results, staffing needs, and other information to leadership • Collaborate with Legal Project Management, Knowledge Management, Billing and Collections, and Information Technology on AI and other technology solutions
🎯 Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree • At least 5 years of experience in legal bill review or insurance defense work • Prior experience as an attorney or paralegal at a large law firm or major insurance company • Deep understanding of defense counsel activities, legal terminology, and insurance company Defense Counsel Billing Guidelines • Proficiency in legal billing software, including BillBlast and Aderant • Proficiency in eBilling vendors, including Legal Tracker and Tymetrix 360 • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills • Ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external personnel at all levels • Superior judgment and discretion when handling sensitive, confidential matters • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize assignments • Ability to work independently and collaboratively • Ability and willingness to travel to firm offices and other events as needed • Juris Doctor (JD) degree preferred • Specific experience defending labor and employment matters preferred • Familiarity with the operational structure of large, multi-office litigation law firms preferred • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in legal staffing preferred
