• Provide leadership and day-to-day technical direction within the mining engineering functional area • Prepare resource and reserve estimates for metal, coal, industrial mineral, and construction aggregate deposits • Develop detailed mine and reclamation plans, including mining methods, equipment, staffing, production rates, and scheduling • Conduct economic evaluations using discounted cash flow rate of return and prepare capital and operating cost estimates • Represent mineral owners/agencies in dealings with mining companies, contractors, and government agencies • Assist Indian mineral owners with mineral lease negotiations and review agreements, including royalty and environmental protection terms • Review and evaluate Tribal grant proposals for mineral assessment and development projects • Monitor assigned grants through their full lifecycle, ensuring compliance, tracking progress, and providing technical assistance • Present on mining fundamentals, regulations, mineral agreement structures, and NEPA requirements • Coordinate with legal, environmental, and governmental stakeholders • Direct junior engineers/consultants and multidisciplinary teams when supervisory responsibilities are assigned • Report to the On-Site Lead and Project Manager • Travel to government and Tribal sites for meetings, fieldwork, and grant site visits
• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mining Engineering or a closely related field (e.g., Geological Engineering) • FE required; PE strongly preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months) • 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in mine planning, reserve estimation, and economic evaluation across surface and/or underground operations • Demonstrated success in resource and reserve estimation across multiple commodities, including geostatistics, block modeling, and reconciliation • Significant experience leading mine design and engineering, including pit/UG layouts, phase design, haul road geometry, ventilation, dewatering, slope stability/ground control, drill-and-blast, materials handling, backfill, LoM plans, schedules, and production forecasts • Reclamation and closure planning expertise, including geochemical considerations, water management, post-mining land use, and life-cycle cost models • Experience with cut-off grade analysis, pit optimization, sensitivities, NPV/IRR, cash-flow modeling, and prefeasibility/feasibility studies • Experience representing mineral owners/operators in lease and royalty negotiations, surface use agreements, right-of-way, and regulatory processes • Track record of executive-level presentations and clear decision memos • Supervisory/mentoring experience directing junior engineers/consultants and multi-disciplinary teams • Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight/Hexagon, Surpac or similar; Whittle/NPV optimizers; GIS; advanced Excel/Power BI; exposure to Slide or FLAC3D is a plus • Strong MSHA knowledge, field auditing, contractor/OEM coordination, and commissioning/start-up support • Willingness to travel to operating sites and community locations • Public Trust clearance and minimum NACI background investigation required • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the company insurance program • Ability to work normal business hours aligned with 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Mountain Time, Monday through Friday; evening, weekend, or travel-related work may be required
