📋 Description

• Own the standards picture across products and markets, including IEC 61508, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, ISO 3691-4, ISO 25119, UL 4600, and ISO 21448 • Serve as named Functional Safety Manager, owning the safety plan, lifecycle phases, gate criteria, competence records, and safety case • Hold lifecycle gates and determine whether evidence is adequate and sufficiently independent • Author safety manuals and subsystem data packs, including IEC 61508-2/-3 Annex D content, PFHD and architecture data, and assumptions of use • Own certification body relationships from scope and submission through findings and surveillance • Represent the safety argument to third-party assessors • Run regulatory watch for EU Machinery Regulation readiness, standards revisions, and roadmap/customer conformity-file impacts • Analyze field modification impacts and feed safety anomalies from installations back into the safety argument • Collaborate with teammates while challenging technical work when needed • Report through a direct line to the CTO, outside the engineering delivery line

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years in functional safety as a practising engineer in embedded, systems, hardware, or safety-critical software in industrial, automotive, aerospace, medical, or similar regulated domains • At least one product taken through third-party certification end-to-end, personally owning a substantial part of the safety argument and defending it to an assessor • Deep fluency in IEC 61508 parts 1–3, including IEC 61508-2/-3 Annex D safety-manual requirements and systematic capability arguments • Working knowledge of ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 from the supplier side • Ability to critically review safety analyses, including diagnostic coverage claims, failure-rate sources, and fault models • Ability to influence without line authority; role has no direct reports • B.S. or higher in an engineering discipline, or equivalent experience • Nice to have: TÜV Rheinland FS Engineer or Exida CFSE/CFSP certification; machinery and off-highway experience; safety-element-out-of-context or compliant-item work; EU Machinery Regulation readiness programs; autonomy and SOTIF exposure; certification-body or contracted-assessor experience
