📋 Description

• Build and lead Freshpaint's legal function as its first in-house counsel • Report directly to the CEO • Advise executives and cross-functional teams on commercial, product, privacy, compliance, employment, corporate, and other legal matters • Create scalable legal processes for a growing organization • Own commercial contracting end to end across new business, renewals, expansion, and partner/agency agreements • Build contract templates, playbooks, and workflows • Manage outside counsel and legal spend strategically • Advise on data privacy strategy, data protection, security, and compliance matters • Embed with Product and Engineering so privacy review occurs at the design stage • Advise the CEO and cross-functional leaders on legal risk • Support corporate governance, financing, equity, employment, IP, and other corporate legal matters • Develop a proactive, business-first approach to risk management

🎯 Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. state • In-house legal experience at a technology or SaaS company, ideally at an earlier-stage, fast-moving startup • Strong experience negotiating and managing commercial agreements across the customer and vendor lifecycle • Deep familiarity with privacy, data protection, and technology-related legal issues • Practical, business-oriented approach balancing risk management with speed, customer needs, and company goals • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate effectively across functions • Ability to operate independently, prioritize competing demands, and make progress in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment
