📋 Description

• Defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters • Cover venues within Manhattan, Staten Island and Bronx, New York • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions and memoranda • Render opinions on liability, damages and value as requested by the Claims Department • Prepare and handle pleadings, motions and discovery • Handle depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath • Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable

🎯 Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in related field in litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury • Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED • Admission to the New York Bar REQUIRED • Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York • Must meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable • Must be able to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences • Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner • Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution • Strong organization, priority-setting and multitasking skills • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information • Preferred: Civil litigation experience • Preferred: Insurance defense-related litigation experience • Must be able to communicate professionally in person, by telephone and in written correspondence/email • At this time, GEICO will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position
