📋 Description

• Lead the geotechnical workstream for GeologicAI’s scanning systems • Deliver product scoping, prioritization, and definitions of done for product development and commercial rollout • Shape long-term product roadmaps, identify market opportunities, and strengthen competitive positioning • Establish and prioritize geotechnical product requirements, including imaging and sensor data quality, structural picking and orientation pipelines, strength and rock mass classification workflows, validation methods, and development cadence • Own and evolve the product canvas for geotechnical characterization • Coordinate and prioritize projects across the geotechnical workstream • Establish technical positioning against competitors and contribute to strategic planning, trend analysis, capability-gap identification, and resourcing recommendations • Prototype geotechnical algorithms and workflows for fracture and defect detection, RQD and fracture frequency, discontinuity orientation and roughness, and strength proxies • Engage with prediction model development alongside data scientists and software developers • Recruit and develop team members through mentorship, feedback, and growth opportunities • Convey the value of automated geotechnical outputs for slope and underground stability design, mine planning, ground support optimization, and geotechnical risk management • Support product development update meetings with client geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists • Build relationships with academic institutions and third parties • Scope geotechnical logging, rock mass classification, and strength prediction workflows • Review client geotechnical data and generated outputs for engineering sense and analytical integrity • Collaborate on geological, resource, and geotechnical domain models • Design and oversee validation studies from individual discontinuity picks through drill-hole-scale rock mass domains and laboratory strength testing • Develop or supervise calibration and prediction models based on core imaging and fused scanning data • Travel for client meetings and site visits up to 20% of the time

🎯 Requirements

• Degree in geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, rock mechanics, or a closely related field • Professional registration (P.Eng., P.Geo., or equivalent) is an asset • Experience converting research and development work to commercial product • Experience leading technical teams through ambiguous R&D-to-product translation work • Project management and collaborative skills to focus and prioritize critical work first • Ability to guide teams with clear goals and KPIs where needed • Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor team members, foster a high-performing team culture, and grow leadership capabilities • Track record of leading projects and teams to make decisions under uncertainty • Strong working knowledge of geotechnical core logging and rock mass characterisation, including RQD, fracture frequency, discontinuity orientation, roughness and infill, weathering and alteration, and RMR, Q, and GSI classification systems • Experience with differences between automated imaging and sensor systems, manual geotechnical recording, and laboratory measurements, including calibration and validation implications • Familiarity with laboratory rock strength and index testing, including UCS, point load, Brazilian tensile, and triaxial testing • Technical coding literacy sufficient to critically review notebooks and engage with modelling choices • Existing networks in the geotechnical, rock mechanics, or mining engineering space • Prior mining industry experience for a major producer or consulting company is an asset • Technical coding and model-building capabilities are an asset
