• Lead GiveWell’s messaging and narratives across audiences and contexts • Translate research, grantmaking, and ideas into clear, accurate messages, frameworks, and products • Own brand positioning and guidelines across teams, channels, and partnership communications • Partner with Philanthropy on donor communications strategy and lead tailored donor-facing communications • Lead complex cross-functional communications initiatives, including partnership campaigns involving grantees and external partners • Advise senior leaders and teams on audiences, framing, opportunities, and risks • Assess emerging issues and develop organizational positions and messaging • Own strategic direction and institutional messaging for GiveWell’s website • Own internal communications strategy and major internal communications • Set strategy, build systems, hire and develop staff, and grow the strategic communications function • Manage and develop one or two team members initially • Collaborate with the Vice President of Communications and two other Senior Communications Officers • Report to the Vice President of Communications
• 10+ years of experience developing institutional narratives and messaging, advising senior leaders, communicating complex or technical material, and leading cross-functional initiatives • Significant experience leading communications in complex, high-stakes environments • Deep end-to-end ownership of communications work • Experience building or substantially rebuilding a team or function • Experience hiring, developing, and managing people • Recent hands-on communications work personally produced or substantially shaped • Exceptional communications judgment • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to make complex ideas clear and compelling without sacrificing rigor or nuance • Experience producing direct, factual, engaging, and effective communications • Intellectual curiosity and ability to engage deeply with research and ideas • Experience advising executives or senior decision-makers directly • Experience or demonstrated expertise in organizational positioning, brand strategy, donor communications, web strategy, and internal communications desired • Strong alignment with GiveWell’s mission and values, including truth-seeking, transparency, and accurate, thoughtful communication • Ability to work with minimum overlap with American working hours and key coworkers for international employment
