• Assess the Italian Garden at the Codman Estate, including existing conditions of plantings, masonry, and garden objects • Review historical and contemporary records and create existing-conditions reports and plans • Develop historically authentic, climate-conscious recommendations for preservation and restoration • Develop a functional maintenance plan for the garden • Review records of historical weather events at the Codman Estate • Create a graphic report documenting weather and climate-change impacts over time, with special attention to tree communities • Develop a replacement plan for the at-risk Ash tree • Complete other duties and special projects supporting organizational goals • Report to the Vice President of Property Care and Climate Action • Collaborate with the Property Care team, collections, visitor experience, and the Study Center Manager
• Current enrollment in or completed master’s degree program in a field related to the fellowship topic • Experience with and access to CAD or other design software program • Strong interest in historic landscapes and knowledge of New England culture and history preferred • Means of transportation and ability to travel the New England region • New England residency required during the tenure of the fellowship • Strong belief in, and demonstrated commitment to, Historic New England’s mission • Flexible availability for evening and weekend work
