📋 Description

• Prepare and analyze specimens for cytogenetic testing • Assist in wet lab duties across all phases of established cytogenetic diagnostic protocols • Work independently and collaboratively with healthcare professionals • Identify, prepare, and process tissue and body fluid specimens according to departmental SOPs with minimal technical error and supervision • Perform FISH and/or chromosome analysis and chromosome microarray (CMA) analysis when needed • Prioritize and reorganize work in response to workload and STAT requests • Recognize and correct instrument malfunctions within the operations manual and record troubleshooting activities • Conduct quality control and performance improvement activities, including reagent lot-to-lot and continuous quality control • Participate in validation projects and manage related data • Provide clinical orientation and/or training for new employees and students • Participate in continuing education programs and proficiency testing • Participate in inventory management as needed • Review and update current SOPs • Respond to on-call demands

🎯 Requirements

• BS degree with a major in biological science/chemistry meeting CLIA 88 personnel requirements AND completion of a NAACLS accredited cytogenetics education program OR two years of full-time training in a cytogenetics laboratory with an associate degree • Certification by a recognized certifying agency for clinical laboratory professionals required (ASCP, ASMT, NCA, etc.) • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community • Ability to work with probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables • Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and laboratory information systems • Knowledge and skill for all types of pathology tissues • Ability to function appropriately for on-call demands
