📋 Description

• Define underwriting strategy for the Builders Risk division • Evaluate and underwrite wood frame builders risk projects • Manage and grow a portfolio of projects while maximizing carrier capacity within agreements and guidelines • Lead, train, and develop Associate Underwriters and Underwriters • Manage a small to mid-sized team, including performance evaluations, hiring, recruiting, and termination decisions • Define team production goals aligned with division goals and drive execution • Review referrals from team members • Curate a portfolio in accordance with underwriting guidelines and prescribed pricing tools • Provide input to governance and underwriting guideline definition • Own division-level projects or initiatives outside the direct area of expertise • Manage a small team or portion of division budget when applicable • Build relationships with capacity providers • Act as subject matter expert for peers, leadership, and team members • Apply advanced technical underwriting principles to nuanced wood frame and renovation risks • Execute annual new business goals, premium income, quote numbers, and hit ratios • Build relationships with key producers and place additional business • Collaborate with product, claims, and actuarial teams • Report to the SVP Underwriting or above

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, psychology, criminal justice, mathematics, finance, business, or a related field preferred • 5-12 years of relevant underwriting experience • In-depth understanding of technical underwriting principles and risk assessment • Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills • Proven ability to manage and build broker and client relationships • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) • Demonstrated ability to handle complex risks with sound judgment • Highly self-motivated with strong attention to detail • Ability to remain in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time, with occasional movement throughout the office to access files and equipment • Ability to travel up to 30% or more as required for client meetings, conferences, or industry events
