📋 Description

• Serve as the primary legal advisor to the People team across hiring, performance management, corrective actions, terminations, reductions in force, accommodations, leaves, compensation, contingent workers, and sensitive employee situations • Own employment disputes, including pre-litigation claims, demand letters, EEOC and state-agency charges, settlement negotiations, and outside counsel direction • Oversee and advise on internal employment investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower, and policy-violation matters • Provide proactive multistate employment-law compliance counsel, especially for non-exempt employee populations • Monitor federal, state, and local legal developments and take preventive action • Advise on employee and HR data privacy and information security • Draft, review, and negotiate offer letters, employment agreements, separation and severance agreements, CIIAAs, and equity-related documents • Translate legal and regulatory developments into practical guidance • Develop and maintain employment policies, handbooks, and compliance procedures • Develop and deliver employment-law training for the People team, people leaders, and business stakeholders • Learn and take ownership of adjacent legal areas including privacy, information security, non-employment litigation, regulatory investigations, ERISA and benefits, commercial contracting, and marketing and advertising review • Support regulatory inquiries and examinations • Advise on customer, product, and vendor data privacy and information security matters • Support active litigation and disputes, including outside-counsel coordination, document collection and productions, and internal communications • Review marketing and advertising materials for legal and regulatory compliance • Draft and negotiate commercial agreements and provide general contract support • Report directly to the Assistant General Counsel, Product & Regulatory

🎯 Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required • 8 to 10+ years of legal experience • Deep, dedicated employment law experience across counseling and disputes • Demonstrated counseling depth on non-exempt employee populations • Experience managing employment litigation and pre-litigation matters, directing outside counsel, and driving strategy and resolution • Demonstrated expertise in California employment law • Experience with equity compensation and executive compensation • At least one prior in-house legal role strongly preferred • Startup or high-growth technology company experience is a strong plus • Law firm background preferred • Ability to translate analytical rigor into practical, business-ready guidance • Comfort advising non-legal stakeholders, including the People team, senior executives, and business leaders • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and make sound judgment calls in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills • Genuine fluency with AI tools and daily use in legal research, drafting, analysis, and legal problem-solving • Ability to build AI workflows and, where applicable, agents • Ability to evaluate and thoughtfully apply emerging AI capabilities with attention to quality and risk • Ability to articulate AI's power and limitations in legal contexts and help others develop AI fluency
