📋 Description

• Review medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures related to patient encounters • Select principal diagnosis, principal procedure, and other diagnoses and procedures using UHDDS definitions • Ensure appropriate DRG assignment • Abstract information from medical records according to client guidelines • Meet productivity and quality performance requirements • Enter coded charts in real time using company applications throughout scheduled shifts • Query physicians regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation • Participate in team meetings and required training • Train or shadow other coders as assigned • Flex assignments across multiple clients to meet required classification hours • Participate in Coding Roundtables by presenting coding and Health Information Management materials, articles and current issues • Maintain current knowledge of Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting • Complete assigned education modules • Keep coding credentials current and active • Maintain professional communication and contribute to a positive company image • Perform additional duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• Required credential: CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT or RHIA • At least 3 years of experience coding a variety of General Surgery procedures in Profee and Facility charts • At least 2 years of experience coding Ophthalmology and multispecialty Profee and Facility charts • Experience coding diagnoses, E&M and CPTs • Minimum 3+ years of surgery experience coding a variety of procedures, including tonsillectomy, tumor excision, tracheostomy, lymph node removal, thyroid lobectomy, skin graft, laminotomy, facetectomy, foraminotomy, herniated disk repair, vertebral augmentation, spinal fixation and allograft • Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology and disease processes • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPS and CPT coding principles and guidelines, reimbursement systems, and federal, state and payor-specific documentation, coding and billing regulations and policies • Must pass coding proficiency test • Strong interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written • High level of coding accuracy and attention to detail • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook • Epic/3M experience preferred, but training may be provided
