📋 Description

• Pioneer quantitative research efforts at Udio as a full-stack scientist • Build at the intersection of research, engineering, and product using proprietary datasets of music, metadata, and user interactions/feedback • Work closely with the modeling team, product leadership, and music evaluation manager • Design and own evaluation and optimization frameworks for frontier music models • Analyze music generation systems to understand model capabilities and identify areas for growth • Build optimization loops and apply findings to pretraining, post-training, and inference systems • Drive the product and research roadmap and own the data roadmap end-to-end • Formulate research questions, explore, link, and expand data sources, and conduct experiments • Apply data mining, machine learning, causal inference, and survey design • Deliver results that inform product development, research investment, and business direction • Build robust integrations with research and product technology stacks, including potentially performance-critical paths • Build large-scale standalone data processing systems and manage the data ecosystem • Champion scientific rigor by identifying opportunities, defining metrics, sharing results, and building a rigorous foundation for understanding models, users, and data

🎯 Requirements

• Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, physics, or another quantitative discipline, or 5+ years’ industry experience as a quantitative analyst / data scientist • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership in greenfield research domains, undefined product categories, and small, flat teams • Ability to translate ideas into clear, production-ready code and collaborate in an active research codebase • Ability to communicate technical information with rigor and clarity to researchers, engineers, product managers, and business partners • Nice to have: Experience in DSP, MIR, music production, composition, or performance • Nice to have: Familiarity with deep learning frameworks, especially JAX • Nice to have: Experience with GCP, Apache Beam/DataFlow, Kubernetes, TensorFlow Data, or TFRecord • Nice to have: Experience designing evaluation frameworks for generative model outputs in any modality
