• Support the claims organization by calculating and issuing short- and/or long-term disability payments • Establish increasingly complex payments in the system • Document claims accurately and comprehensively • Update and maintain payment tracking systems with key dates and outcomes • Partner with internal and external areas to achieve financial accuracy and stability for claimants • Use contracts, state guidelines, and other income earnings to determine and calculate benefits • Communicate by email or phone with employers, claims specialists, and claimants to obtain financial data and other information • Gather and review decision-making information from claim case managers, claimants, vendors, and customer contacts • Work independently under established procedures and guidelines, meet service-level and performance deadlines, and make routine and non-routine decisions • Apply expanded knowledge to increasingly complex situations and continue acquiring role-related knowledge • Establish follow-up tasks for claims examiners requiring payment adjustments or oversight • Identify and act on claims with potential benefit offsets based on other income sources • Adhere to Sarbanes-Oxley financial controls, corporate compliance, and GAAP
• High School diploma or GED • 2 - 3 Years of progressive experience in a financial services environment, such as payroll services, directly aligned to the specific responsibilities for this position • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal/written) • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) • Ability to work with others in a team environment • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment with the ability to adapt as needed (Preferred) • Ability to work in various Excel documents with a high comfort level of mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, averages and/or variances (Preferred) • Ability to articulate/alter provisions and comfort with contract language (Preferred)
