📋 Description

• Fund AI capabilities research through a $5 million grant program • Support research measuring whether benchmark performance translates to reliable performance on realistic tasks and workflows • Support development of high-fidelity, interactive environments capturing real-world work complexity • Evaluate and improve models’ ability to plan, execute, and adapt across extended workflows • Advance agentic capabilities including tool use, coordination, memory, and autonomous execution • Improve performance on complex, ambiguous, or underspecified tasks • Develop better data, rewards, and training methods for post-training • Create robust measures of capability, reliability, and real-world utility • Enable access to Mercor experts for human grading and annotation • Enable access to internal evaluation infrastructure subject to review • Connect grantees with researchers across frontier labs and academia

🎯 Requirements

• Academic groups, independent researchers, and non-profit organizations may apply • A specific, well-scoped research question • Proposal focused on real-world evaluations, environments, long-horizon tasks, agentic capabilities, reasoning and problem-solving, post-training, or evaluation methodology • One- or two-page Expression of Interest • Expression of Interest must include team, background, and research accomplishments • Expression of Interest must include the proposed research project • Expression of Interest must include project outputs, impact, timelines, and resource requirements • Grantees are expected to publish a paper, open dataset, public methodology, or field-usable tool
