📋 Description

• Manage and expand a portfolio of mission-aligned 6- and 7-figure foundation, corporate, and individual funders • Translate Meritus College's early outcomes data and founding story into compelling, fundable narratives • Balance traditional higher-ed philanthropy practices with early-stage startup speed and resourcefulness • Lead the fundraising strategy to launch Meritus College • Shape and build new fundraising initiatives and ways of working • Identify, research, and cultivate new funding relationships • Lead proposal development with support from Merit America's Development team • Prospect entrepreneurially and apply creativity and resourcefulness to fundraising • Track and analyze pipeline health, funder trends, and outcomes • Manage funding relationships from outreach through solicitation, close, and stewardship • Advance $10M in deals to proposal stage or later in the first year, with team support • Write correspondence connecting data and mission to funder priorities • Represent Meritus College in funder meetings and presentations • Steward and renew funders to build long-term trust • Partner with academic, data, and operations teams to gather proof points and impact data • Build the advancement function with Meritus College leadership • Report to the Managing Director of Development and collaborate with the broader Development Team and academic and operating leadership

🎯 Requirements

• Experience as the fundraising lead, or the close partner to the fundraising lead, on something a college or university was building for the first time: a new degree program, school, campus, institute, accredited entity, or a nonprofit incubated inside an institution • Working knowledge of accreditation, credit portability and transfer, academic model design, and the diligence institutional funders run on a new or newly accredited program • Track record of raising money or building partnerships, or of supporting the person or team who did • Ability to build a case for support while proof points are still accumulating • Bias for action and ability to prospect cold, draft proposal templates, and work with incomplete information • Comfort with ambiguity in a new college and growing organization • Track record of leveraging resources including AI for research, drafting, and prospecting • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to translate data and mission into a persuasive case for support • Comfort pitching a new institution with credibility and honesty • Genuine belief in expanding access to higher education for working adults and non-traditional students • Alignment with Merit America's values • Candidates must reside within the 50 states or District of Columbia • Full authorization to work in the 50 U.S. states and District of Columbia • Merit America does not offer employment visa sponsorship • Nice to have: startup or scaling nonprofit experience; existing funder relationships; Salesforce or comparable CRM experience; comfort using AI tools
