📋 Description

• Oversee installation, commissioning, and configuration of generator systems in data centers • Assist with integrating backup generators with UPS and automatic transfer switches • Guide regular inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure emergency readiness • Guide testing and monitoring of generator performance, including load testing, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and battery charging systems • Develop and maintain generator fault, deficiency, wear-monitoring, and corrective-action plans • Remotely diagnose and troubleshoot backup generators and related power systems during scheduled maintenance and emergencies • Communicate remediation steps to site teams or local contractors • Respond to power outages and failures, supporting transitions between primary and backup power • Use remote monitoring systems to track generator performance, fuel levels, and critical alerts • Guide preparation of system-status, usage, and maintenance reports • Coordinate with data center operations teams during power tests, upgrades, and emergency response drills • Train team members on generator operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols • Recommend and implement efficiency enhancements, capacity upgrades, and newer generator technologies • Assist with backup-power preparation for data center capacity growth and expansion projects • Guide accurate service records, repair and inspection logs, and generator performance data • Ensure work complies with regulations, industry standards, and internal data center policies • Coordinate with compliance and local site teams to keep certifications and warranties current

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on experience with generator maintenance and troubleshooting in critical environments such as data centers, hospitals, or industrial settings • In-depth knowledge of data center power infrastructure, including generators, UPS, ATS, switchgear, and electrical systems • Strong understanding of diesel, gas-powered, and hybrid generators and associated technologies; Caterpillar, Cummins, Kohler, and MTU preferred • Experience with remote monitoring and diagnostic systems for generators and critical power systems • Knowledge of data center power redundancy schemes and topologies, including 2N, block redundant, and distributed redundant configurations • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints • Experience operating load banks, automatic transfer switches, and power monitoring systems • Knowledge of backup-generator fuel delivery systems and management practices, including fuel pump configurations, redundancy requirements, bulk storage, belly tank usage, fuel testing, and storage protocols • Experience integrating power systems in mission-critical environments • Ability to work calmly in high-pressure emergency situations and maintain uptime • Willingness and ability to provide on-call and 24/7 support as required • Ability to lift 50+ pounds when working with heavy equipment • Willingness to work indoors, outdoors, and in generator enclosures • Ability to manage approximately 25% travel • High School diploma or equivalent required • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field preferred • Certifications in electrical systems, power generation, and/or safety preferred, such as electrical license, OSHA, NFPA 70E, or manufacturer-specific certifications
