NMDP is a nonprofit organization (formerly Be The Match) that operates the national blood stem cell donor registry and coordinates cell therapy to treat blood cancers and other blood disorders. It recruits and registers donors, matches donors to patients, facilitates transplants, provides patient support and financial assistance, conducts and funds clinical research and trials, and leads advocacy and fundraising to expand access to life‑saving cell therapies.

📋 Description

• Provide comprehensive medical support to the NMDP network and staff for donor evaluation and management, donor and recipient adverse events, and investigations of quality incidents involving medical issues • Serve as a liaison between the network and NMDP departments to ensure quality procedures for cellular products and minimize organizational risk • Assess complex clinical situations using medical knowledge • Determine appropriate actions based on clinical judgment and/or consultation with an NMDP physician or designee • Communicate complex medical information professionally and at an appropriate level for stakeholders • Apply GTP and cGMP regulations in daily practice • Maintain confidentiality and advocate for volunteer stem cell donors • Perform triage, review and disposition for next steps during acute donor and process issues • Notify donors of recipient findings suspected of being donor-derived • Monitor donors during and after adverse events • Investigate and monitor qualifying recipient adverse events • Prepare data and present donor and recipient adverse event summaries to internal parties and external agencies • Perform root cause analysis and investigate quality incidents identified in the Quality Incident system or FormsNet • Collaborate with Case Management staff and Network members on incident recognition, protocol deviations, documentation and follow-up • Liaise with NMDP Quality to identify and report quality assurance trends • Communicate potential risk management concerns to key NMDP stakeholders • Mitigate risk through problem solving, interventions and post-event communication • Consult with Legal as needed • Ensure awareness and education regarding donor confidentiality • Coordinate medical care for donors with long-term complications • Assist with financial assistance for donors experiencing financial difficulties due to post-donation complications • Support informed consent by providing essential information and ensuring comprehension and voluntariness • Liaise with the donor insurance carrier and Third Party Administrator for disability and medical claims • Perform other duties as assigned

🎯 Requirements

• RN required; BSN preferred • Five years’ experience as a nurse in medicine or a medicine subspecialty area, unless BMT-specific, then two years • Two years of experience in a position involving quality assurance strongly preferred • Clinical knowledge of health conditions and related treatments • Knowledge of common medical diseases and disease management • Knowledge of general health assessment • Knowledge of collecting and analyzing pertinent data and/or clinical findings • Knowledge of health care confidentiality standards • Knowledge of basic computer applications • Ability to summarize and communicate complex medical information effectively • Ability to evaluate health issues from various sources • Ability to solve complex problems and make timely, sound decisions • Critical thinking skills • Ability to exercise independent judgment using appropriate resources • Ability to handle multiple issues with flexibility and appropriate prioritization • Strong customer service skills • Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office programs • Flexibility in work hours to meet business needs • Foreign language skills desirable • Certification as a Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Certified Nurse (TCTCN®) preferred • Knowledge of stem cell transplantation, product collection and HLA typing preferred • Knowledge of donor health issues related to stem cell donation preferred • Basic clinical research knowledge preferred
