• Oversee installation, repair, troubleshooting, upgrades, overhauls, and testing of marine machinery, turbine-generators, and gear-driven propulsion units onboard naval vessels • Plan and manage field projects and assignments • Interface with customers and provide technical direction to shipyard and Northrop Grumman personnel • Lead factory hourly personnel, engineering personnel, customer labor, sub-vendors, and ship’s force • Operate independently at customer facilities with remote technical guidance as needed • Define repair and resolution requirements using engineering drawings and documented processes • Write technical condition reports, procedures, and project reports • Communicate project status to management and customers • Provide technical support and guidance during installation, modification, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of marine propulsion and power-generation equipment • Compile recommended replacement material lists • Determine root causes of reported problems • Oversee disassembly and inspection processes • Design custom tooling, jigs, and equipment as needed • Create disassembly and inspection plans using engineering principles • Analyze machinery and control-system problems through customer discussions, machine observation, troubleshooting plans, and control-system data • Track contract financials, scope, departures from scope, and Requests for Equitable Adjustment • Perform occasional hands-on labor in heavy manufacturing and operating environments
• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 8+ years of relevant work experience, or Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant work experience • Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics • Strong oral and written communication skills • Strong customer service skills and positive attitude • Strong critical thinking skills • Understanding of engineering root cause corrective action analysis • Ability to perform work onboard a ship, including climbing steep stairways and vertical ladders • Ability and willingness to work extended hours, often 12-hour shifts, 7 days a week • Ability and willingness to travel up to 75%, often with 24 hours’ notice • Ability and willingness to work night shift • US Citizen • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance • Preferred: degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Electrical Engineering • Preferred: hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge of steam-driven shipboard propulsion and power-generation equipment and associated subsystems • Preferred: shipyard or ship-repair industrial work experience • Preferred: working knowledge of machine shops, hand tools, and precision measuring devices • Preferred: candidate located near Norfolk, Virginia; Groton, Connecticut; or Kittery, Maine • Preferred: active Secret Clearance
