📋 Description

• Lead an earned media portfolio elevating company thought leadership on priority technology focus areas • Partner with enterprise communications colleagues on proactive and reactive media interviews, pitches, events, news products and digital presence • Develop strategic media relations approaches supporting Space Systems business objectives • Build awareness and obtain buy-in for earned media strategies and media storytelling • Prepare and position Space Systems subject matter experts for earned media opportunities • Coordinate with the Sector Communications Strategy team on media presence and narrative • Share regular results, media trends and metrics on media relations efforts • Use results to evolve strategies and achieve communications and business goals • Monitor industry news and flag issues and trends for internal stakeholders • Lead, mentor and develop media and public relations professionals • Prepare company spokespeople and secure media engagement logistics • Engage with reporters and public affairs officers as needed • Plan, prepare, track, measure and report media engagements • Write and edit news content, media preparation materials and other required content • Correct inaccuracies and act as a company spokesperson • Develop and maintain relationships with key reporters • Travel to Space Sector sites and other locations 25% of the time

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 10 years of experience; or master’s degree and minimum of 8 years of experience in media relations, communications, public relations, or public affairs for a medium- to large-sized organization • Experience leading people • Demonstrated knowledge in developing, deploying and activating strategic media and communication campaigns with measurable business impact • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time • Proven success leading people as direct reports and when matrixed for projects • Strategic thinking, planning and decision-making experience • Experience developing and executing strategic media relations communications plans • Ability to interact with executive leadership confidently and independently • Ability to identify and leverage news cycles and execute press events • Effective AP writing and editing skills • Ability to draft news releases, news features and long-form op-eds • High attention to detail and risk-conscious mindset • Commitment to quality work and accountability • Preferred: experience in large, matrixed and/or geographically dispersed organizations • Preferred: experience developing relationships with colleagues, executives and reporters • Preferred: experience in technology, aerospace, defense, science-related business or government • Preferred: experience with Zignal and MuckRack reporter database tools • Preferred: familiarity with defense, space and aerospace industry reporters • U.S. Citizenship is required for positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions
