📋 Description

• Own onX’s Android identity, subscription, and feature-access libraries shared across every onX Android app • Set technical direction, evolve patterns, co-own backend API contracts, and deliver changes to production • Harden token refresh and session lifecycle using coroutines and structured concurrency • Handle network loss and process death gracefully to maintain user sessions • Build client-side observability for identity flows and diagnose authentication issues by device, OS version, and app • Represent Android in IAM design work covering account management, session management, passkeys, one-time passwords, entitlements, and bundling • Partner with backend engineers, Android platform leads, product teams, and an iOS counterpart • Maintain consistent identity and entitlement behavior through shared specifications, test cases, and design documents • Grow client expertise through code review, documentation, and mentoring • Identify technical problems, write design documents, align stakeholders, and drive rollouts across apps • Integrate and refine AI experimentation in daily workflows • Participate in the Identity team’s on-call rotation, following runbooks or escalating issues as needed • Report to a Software Engineering Manager III

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience • Six or more years of professional software development experience, with building and shipping production Android apps in Kotlin as a primary focus for at least three of those years • Deep knowledge of Kotlin, coroutines and Flow • Experience diagnosing race conditions, lifecycle and threading issues in production apps • Experience building and maintaining a shared library or SDK used by multiple apps or teams • Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect • Experience with secure token storage using the Android Keystore • Experience with Custom Tabs or AppAuth • Experience with session handling across process death and backgrounding • Security-first approach to secure defaults, token handling and failure modes • Ability to serve as the go-to expert for client identity and entitlements • Experience driving cross-team technical initiatives from design document to rollout • Curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI • Ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment • Ability to travel bi-annually for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location • Preferred/bonus: Experience with Ory, Auth0, Okta, passkeys, Credential Manager API, Sentry, custom metrics, tracing, Google Play Billing, in-app subscriptions, entitlement checks, offline-first apps, distributed teams, or outdoor apps
