• Prepare construction documents, including plan and profile drawings, for overhead and underground electric distribution, fiber optic, and telecommunications facilities • Prepare make-ready work for joint-use projects • Assist with engineering and project cost estimates and execution schedules • Provide field support during construction • Perform quality reviews and follow QA/QC processes • Evaluate equipment and pole structural loading for safe, reliable, cost-effective designs • Apply NESC, client, federal, state, and local standards to joint-use and make-ready designs • Analyze field-collected data and imagery and update software packages for design implementation • Use client proprietary software and equipment in the engineering design workflow and attachment permitting process • Complete assigned work within project schedules and budgets and communicate status to management • Communicate with clients to determine cost-effective engineering solutions • Provide documentation and support to accounting functions for project budgeting and accounting • Transcribe notes and measure, inspect, and organize field data • Attend client-site meetings and interact with the general public, landowners, and operators as needed • Identify, inspect, and record field equipment, construction situations, and rights-of-way • Communicate with coworkers and clients to agree on engineering design solutions • Work in varied terrain and weather conditions and travel overnight or for extended periods based on project assignments
• High School Diploma or GED required with 3+ years of experience in fieldwork, construction, drafting, utility work, or technical design • Associate Degree in engineering technology, construction, drafting technology, or related technical discipline with 0–2 years of experience, with interest in fieldwork, surveying, or equivalent experience • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction, GIS, drafting, or related technical discipline with 0–2 years of experience preferred • Prior utility design or make-ready design experience preferred • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics preferred • Working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction preferred • Experience in pole loading software such as Spida Calc, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, or Katapult, or construction modeling software such as AutoCAD, beneficial • Knowledge of SPANS, NJUNS, or IkeGPS beneficial • Knowledge of utility distribution design and construction standards and industry practices • Ability to use design software packages • Familiarity with design and checking practices for engineering drawings and deliverables • Familiarity with safe work practices and PPE applications • Ability to organize project data from start to finish • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and communicate project statuses • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, design, and business enterprise software • Effective written and oral communication skills • Reasoning and practical problem-solving skills • Dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance • Ability to pass a fit-for-duty test • Ability to work from home and an office setting as required • Ability to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test and submit to random testing • Willingness to travel overnight or for extended periods as assigned • Candidates with DDS and Katapult experience strongly preferred
