📋 Description

• Assure high-quality information collection and reporting systems for medical information management services, including coding, data quality management, and compliance • Manage department staff, programs, policies, and activities related to coding services, data quality management, clinical documentation enhancement, and Medical Information Management compliance • Plan, organize, and control medical record coding services, coding quality, billing accuracy, and compliance • Analyze coding and medical record documentation performance and prepare recommendations for action • Monitor the effectiveness of the data quality program and recommend improvements • Monitor business-unit Case Mix Index and identify coding improvement opportunities • Respond to reports identifying potential coding errors or inconsistencies • Oversee the department compliance plan, including assessment, training, policies, procedures, monitoring, and corrective action • Provide direction, supervision, and support to Medical Information Management areas and staff in the absence of the Administrative Director • Advise administration, medical, and managerial staff on coding, documentation, and compliance issues • Resolve intra-departmental and inter-departmental problems • Provide administrative direction to coding services and clinical documentation enhancement • Manage timely and accurate inpatient and outpatient diagnosis and procedure coding using ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and CPT-4 • Manage abstraction of billing data elements, including admission type and source, discharge disposition, and attending physician • Monitor coding quality, accuracy, and timeliness for quality improvement • Manage the Medical Information Management compliance program and CMS regulatory compliance • Benchmark program results against peer organizations • Provide education on coding, compliance, and documentation requirements • Direct continuing education for coding, documentation enhancement, and data quality management staff • Maintain the department compliance plan and monitor performance against it • Retrieve authorized patient- or physician-specific information from abstracting systems, data marts, and the information warehouse • Advise Case Management, Access and Revenue Management, Business Planning, and Information Warehouse stakeholders • Assume departmental responsibility in the absence of the Administrative Director

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Administration or equivalent • Credentialed as a Registered Health Information Administrator by the American Health Information Management Association • 10 years of relevant experience required • 15 or more years of relevant experience preferred • Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and CPT-4 coding classification systems • Knowledge of CMS regulations regarding coding and data abstraction • Ability to manage coding services, clinical documentation enhancement, data quality management, and compliance programs • Ability to manage and educate coding, documentation enhancement, and data quality management staff • Final candidates must successfully complete a background check • A drug screen or physical may be required during the post-offer process
