📋 Description

• Provide legal and criminal law policy staff support for the ProSidian Engagement Team • Advise on legal and policy matters related to redesigning the pretrial services bond report • Help ensure the report accurately reflects a person's risk and excludes non-relevant information • Advise on information crucial to bond decisions and how it should be structured in the report • Review factors for judicial consideration under 18 U.S.C. § 3142(g) • Analyze constitutional and statutory matters and resolve legal questions • Provide guidance on authoritative legal opinions • Review general orders and regulations governing the Probation and Pretrial Services Office and courts • Provide staff support to the Judicial Conference Committee on Criminal Law • Research, evaluate, and analyze legal trends, statutes, case law, precedents, and issues affecting probation and pretrial services • Develop and prepare legal opinions and briefs on legislation, policies, practices, and procedures • Advise on probation and pretrial services regulations, policies, and procedures • Interpret criminal law policies and legislation, including testimony, correspondence, and official reports • Coordinate development of policies and procedures implementing recommendations related to probation and pretrial services • Represent ProSidian and PPSO interests in matters concerning behavioral economist services to redesign the bail report

🎯 Requirements

• Currently active member in good standing of the bar of a state, territory, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a federal court of general jurisdiction • J.D. from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) • At least two (2) years of post-J.D. experience • At least one year of specialized experience subsequent to law school graduation • Specialized experience interpreting statutes, regulations, decisional law, and opinions • Experience conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda, opinions, legislative proposals, and congressional testimony • Experience working in State, Local, Federal, or private sector activities related to policy and data oversight • Experience providing direct legal assistance and counsel in making legal determinations and writing opinions • Experience reviewing legal pleadings, hearing transcripts, and other case materials • Experience preparing draft decisions and orders after examining case records • Experience proofreading factual findings, legal citations, and conclusions of law • Experience researching statutes, regulations, decisions, legislative history, policy guides, and other legal authorities • Experience preparing updates regarding recent decisions, statutes, regulations, and policy guides • Experience and aptitude making oral presentations on factual or legal issues • United States citizenship required • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Adobe • Eligibility for Facility Access Authorization / Employment Authorization • Ability to submit to and qualify for background investigations up to Top Secret or DOE Q clearance • May be required to complete a Financial Disclosure Statement
