📋 Description

• Design, build, ship, and own end-to-end product features used by thousands of developers and hundreds of millions of end-users • Scope problems and take ownership from problem definition through production rollout and long-term maintenance • Build performant, highly reliable backend systems operating at huge scale • Partner with Product on scoping, prioritization, and rollout • Familiarize yourself with and improve existing codebases • Ship meaningful user-facing features, monitor usage and adoption, and iterate • Write tested code, debug issues methodically, participate in code reviews, and mentor engineers • Meet with team members and a mentor during onboarding • Set up repositories, task management, development environment, dashboards, logging, debugging tools, cloud providers, infrastructure, and architecture knowledge • Scope and execute projects independently end to end • Talk directly with customers or support to understand system usage and breakdowns • Learn incident response and join the on-call rotation • Contribute to reliability, quality, architecture, roadmap, and technical direction • Become a subject-matter resource in team focus areas • Spec and architect medium-to-large projects, gather feedback, and drive design validation and rollout plans • Mentor new engineers • Improve organizational reliability, scalability, and performance

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience as a backend engineer designing complex, fast-growing systems • Ability to write advanced SQL statements beyond basic SELECT and UPDATE statements • High bar for quality and ability to cut scope while still delivering value • Customer-obsessed product mindset • Experience scoping, prioritizing, and driving rollouts in partnership with Product • Ability to familiarize yourself quickly with unfamiliar codebases and improve them • Bias toward shipping and iterating • Clear real-time and asynchronous communication • Experience shipping meaningful user-facing features to production, monitoring usage and adoption, and improving them over time • Ability to write high-quality, well-tested code and debug issues methodically • Experience providing thoughtful feedback and mentorship • Experience in Python preferred • Experience in PostgreSQL preferred • Experience building SDKs preferred • Experience shipping a mobile app with in-app purchases preferred • Some experience with React and SPA applications preferred
