• Supervise the daily operations and activities of coding services for Saint Francis Health System • Research, monitor, and coordinate coding and billing needs • Monitor departmental data abstraction and ensure accurate diagnostic and procedural coding from patient records • Develop and implement short- and long-term strategic planning goals • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve payor requests and denials • Determine the appropriateness of appeals and process appeals for payment • Mentor coding staff and provide ongoing education and training • Monitor industry standards and guidelines and update internal policies to meet regulatory requirements • Educate team members and providers on updated regulations • Work with coding auditors on focused review needs and variations in coding practices • Prepare monthly quality, productivity, FTE, and other management reports • Interview and hire coding staff • Make independent decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision • Conduct performance evaluations • Work with internal and external customers, healthcare professionals, staff, and Director-level personnel
• High School Diploma or GED required • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information or related field preferred • CCS certification from AHIMA or CPC certification from AAPC required • RHIA or RHIT preferred • Minimum 5 years of related experience • Previous leadership experience required • Preferably experience in a large acute teaching facility • Experience with ICD-10, CPT, and APR/DRG for hospital-focused responsibilities preferred • Superior knowledge of applicable coding regulatory requirements • Knowledge of public reporting platforms • Knowledge of Case Mix Index or Relative Value Unit (RVU) assignment, severity, and mortality ratings • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills • Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and efficiently • Proven ability to train and educate team members on coding policies and guidelines
