• Contribute editorial ideas during project planning • Research, write, and edit manuscripts with limited supervision • Review and edit all product page stages • Match state objectives to relevant core-program content • Apply state objectives and testing blueprints to content and vendor-work evaluation • Follow established procedures and company policies • Ensure assignments meet project specifications and deadlines • Communicate with the supervisor regarding feedback and performance • Refer budget or schedule decisions to the supervisor and make recommendations when possible • Provide accurate assignment status • Monitor reading level, content accuracy and currency, freedom from bias, and teachability • Write art specifications for artists, topographers, and photo researchers • Evaluate sketches and art proofs and help select photos • Help oversee outside developers • Participate in project planning and suggest creative ideas informed by the marketplace and customer needs • Help develop innovative K-12 digital and/or print instructional materials
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in curriculum development or development of instructional materials for social studies, including some K-5 curriculum development • Experience managing projects preferred • Teaching experience strongly preferred • Knowledge of educational methodologies and instructional design within social studies • Graduate or undergraduate degree with a major or minor in history, economics, English, education, anthropology, ethnic studies, geography, second language acquisition, or related fields • Familiarity with today’s youth, popular culture, and youth learning motivations • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google equivalents • Knowledge of differentiation strategies, scaffolding for MLL students, and UDL/content accessibility • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Proficiency with editing, grammar, and following a style guide such as Chicago Manual of Style • Knowledge of print and digital instructional-material production processes • Ability to write, edit, and rewrite content to meet accuracy, style, grade-level, and market-need standards • Ability to work collaboratively, independently, with minimal supervision, and effectively with ambiguity • Ability to prioritize, multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain required quality • Ability to use constructive feedback, participate in meetings, and promote teamwork • Ability to proactively anticipate, evaluate, and solve workflow issues • Cover letter required with submission
