📋 Description

• Lead acquisitions end to end, including diligence, structuring, purchase agreements, R&W insurance and closing • Drive post-close legal and compliance integration • Build a repeatable M&A playbook • Assess licensing and regulatory issues early to inform deal decisions • Lead the company’s compliance function • Oversee insurance licensing, forms and rates, carrier agreements, regulatory exams and inquiries • Build a scalable compliance model as the company grows and integrates acquisitions • Own MSAs with national property managers and carrier, channel, vendor and data protection agreements • Build contracting templates, approval thresholds and playbooks • Advise on UDAP, FCRA, FDCPA, GLBA and state privacy law • Advise on security deposit statutes governing renter funds • Partner with Product and Marketing to ensure compliant products and materials • Maintain company policies and lead compliance training • Run board processes and corporate governance across the company and licensed subsidiaries • Advise on employment matters, policies, investigations and terminations • Manage trademarks and other intellectual property • Support equity and financing matters • Set the framework for AI system governance and controls • Lead a small legal and compliance team • Oversee litigation, disputes and consumer complaints • Select and manage outside counsel against a controlled budget

🎯 Requirements

• J.D. and admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction • 8+ years at a leading law firm practicing M&A or corporate law • Exposure to regulated industries, ideally through insurance or financial services clients or in-house • Sound judgment on deal structure, diligence and risk allocation, with ability to lead transactions from term sheet through integration • Strong drafting and negotiation skills across complex commercial agreements • Practical, business-minded approach • Clear, direct communication with executives, the board and business partners • Comfort building process and infrastructure in a fast-paced, high-growth environment • Nice to have: experience with insurance licensing, carrier relationships or consumer financial services regulation • Nice to have: familiarity with FCRA, FDCPA, GLBA and state privacy laws • Nice to have: exposure to multifamily, property management or rental housing sectors • Nice to have: experience with AI governance or data-driven products • Nice to have: experience advising startup, venture-backed or PE-backed companies
