• Review system layouts and coordinate with engineering, project management, and sales departments for successful project execution • Produce field surveys and daily project activity logs • Program and commission complex fire alarm systems through final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) • Produce detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA • Troubleshoot complex issues and resolve them effectively • Deliver projects on schedule and within cost budgets • Program systems via laptop computers • Assist with project inventory oversight and manage vehicle inventory • Provide support, guidance, and expertise to other technicians • Assist with job scheduling and progress management efficiently and cost-effectively • Demonstrate equipment and control-unit operation to customers and explain system signals and responses • Comply with industry-standard procedures and Sciens safety programs and policies
• High school diploma or equivalent • Two to five (2-5) years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety industry • Ability to program and commission mid-range fire alarm systems independently • Ability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision • Ability to communicate and coordinate with onsite contractors • Intermediate understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions • Intermediate computer knowledge related to software use and installation • Ability to demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units • Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 72 code requirements • Intermediate knowledge of Section 907 of the International Fire Code or state-adopted fire code • Intermediate knowledge of Section 909 of the International Building Code or state-adopted building code • Intermediate knowledge of Article 760 of NFPA 70 for fire systems and circuiting • State, local, contract, and/or product specific certifications as determined by the business • NICET I certification • Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing, and requirements • Ability to read fire system design drawings • Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency • Ability to work independently with some supervision • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification • Proficient in issue resolution • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills • Physical ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, work from heights, climb ladders, and stand/walk most of the workday • Ability to travel occasionally overnight as needed • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
