• Investigate claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty, or property loss or damages • Attempt to effect out-of-court settlements with claimants • Handle complex losses locally without assistance up to designated authority • Assist on larger losses, including accounting-based losses such as business interruption and stock • Examine claim forms and other records to determine insurance coverage • Interview, telephone, or correspond with claimants and witnesses • Consult police and hospital records • Inspect property damage to determine the extent of company liability • Estimate repair, replacement, or compensation costs • Prepare findings reports and negotiate settlements with claimants • Recommend litigation to the legal department when settlement cannot be negotiated • Attend litigation hearings • Revise case reserves in assigned claims files to cover probable costs • Assist in preparing loss experience reports to help determine profitability and calculate adequate future rates • Perform other duties as assigned • Support the organization's quality programs • Travel as required
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred • Must have earned the IIA-AIC designation and be actively pursuing another professional insurance designation • Appropriate state adjuster license is required • Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required • Strong oral and written communication, including presentation skills • PC literate, including Microsoft Office products • Demonstrated commitment to timely reporting • Strong customer service skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Attention to detail and accuracy • Good time management and organizational skills • Ability to work independently or in a team environment • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time • Ability to kneel, squat or bend • Ability to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions • Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, and reach/work overhead • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds • Ability to push/pull up to 100 pounds • Ability to drive up to 4 hours per day • Continual use of manual dexterity • Hearing, vision, and talking
