📋 Description

• Utilize evidence-based tools to evaluate prescribed medications for patient safety and quality standards • Perform clinical assessments using pharmacy reports and case files • Assess clients’ psychosocial needs, cultural implications and support systems • Evaluate patient drug usage and physician prescribing patterns • Evaluate overuse, underuse and misuse of prescribed medications • Recommend testing to determine whether drug diversion is present • Evaluate the need for and recommend alternative treatment • Send letters to prescribing physicians and refer to physician advisors as necessary • Negotiate appropriate level and intensity of care using medical and disability duration guidelines • Negotiate changes in pharmacy plans with providers • Consult with clients, nursing staff and claims examiners regarding pharmacy issues • Perform drug utilization reviews through the pharmacy benefit manager or vendor • Communicate with claims examiners, clients, vendors, supervisors and other parties • Maintain client privacy and confidentiality and promote client safety and advocacy

🎯 Requirements

• Active unrestricted RN license in a state or territory of the United States required • Four (4) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required • Two (2) years of direct clinical care OR two (2) years of case management/utilization management • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience preferred • Certification in case management, pharmacy, rehabilitation nursing or a related specialty highly preferred • Knowledge and experience in medical/clinical or rehabilitation care • Ability to perform clinical assessments and drug utilization reviews • Ability to evaluate patient drug usage and physician prescribing patterns • Ability to assess overuse, underuse and misuse of prescribed medications • Ability to negotiate pharmacy plan changes with providers • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality and adhere to ethical, legal, accreditation and regulatory standards • Computer keyboarding • Hearing, vision and talking • Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgement and discretion; ability to meet deadlines
